At the moment Alcazar does not yet possess a permanent locality for the activities. Activities that can not be performed at the home of any of us are done in collaboration with other groups (e.g. Flecha Negra for archery and AEEA for period fencing). These groups have their own membership fees.
We practice a medieval form of foot soldier training with different weapons of the period. The training is "full contact". To be able to simulate the correct movements to "kill" the enemy we, of safety reasons, use weapons made of rattan. The material gives the weapon a flexibility and weight that, as good as possible, resembles the real weapon. In the medieval period materials as wood or whale-bone were used for this type of practice. The blows received from the rattan weapons can be severe, hence armour is required. This armour must comply with the rules of the SCA in order to avoid injuries.
At SCA events, we have tournaments in target shooting.
Together with AEEA we are training Renaissance rapier fencing which at SCA events is practised in both tournaments and mêlées.
We are interested in learning more about the cooking in the medieval times, recreating everything from the simple food of the commoner to the banquets at the royal courts.
Dancing is a popular part at our banquets and feasts.
We are trying as far as possible to make ourselves all the cloths and things we are using when we meet at our events, but it also includes the fine arts of calligraphy, illumination, embroideries, weaving, leather work, woodcraft, etc.
Sometimes we meet to recreate medieval life. This events can include banquets, fighting tournaments, archery contests etc. Some events take place in outdoor localities and the accomodation can be in period tents and under conditions as near to the "original" as possible. We are not practicing live role-playing, but we have our persona (for explanation see SCA Inc. homepage).
